Pharaoh of the late 18th Dynasty (reigned c. 1353–1336 BCE), born Amenhotep IV. In his fifth regnal year he changed his name, elevated the Aten to supreme god, and founded a new capital at Akhetaten. Later generations dismantled his monuments and struck him from the king lists. Reign dates follow the conventional chronology; all else attested.
