The everyday metal of Egypt, and the closest thing to money in a coinless economy. Tools, mirrors, vessels, and weapons were copper or bronze, and values were reckoned in deben of copper: a goat, a jar of oil, or a day's work could all be priced in it. Egypt drew its copper from Sinai and, in the New Kingdom, from Cyprus through trade.
