Golden Fly of Valor

< 1 min read

A military decoration of New Kingdom Egypt: fly-shaped pendants of gold awarded by the king for valor in battle — honoring the soldier who harried the enemy with the persistence of a fly, returning however often he was driven off. The most famous surviving examples are the three great gold flies from Queen Ahhotep's burial at Thebes; in Book 1 the honor is worn at Horemheb's throat.
