General of the armies under Tutankhamun and, after Ay, the final pharaoh of the 18th Dynasty. He restored the traditional cults, reorganized the state, and later ordered the systematic dismantling of the Amarna kings' memory. His magnificent private tomb at Saqqara, built before he became king, still stands.
