Obelisk

< 1 min read

A single shaft of stone, square in section and tapering to a small pyramid at the tip, raised in pairs before temple gateways to the sun: the tallest in Egypt were Hatshepsut's and Thutmose III's at Karnak, cut whole from the Aswan granite and floated downriver. The tip was sheathed in electrum to catch the first light.
