Pharaoh of the late 18th Dynasty (reigned c. 1332–1323 BCE), who came to the throne as a child during the aftermath of the Amarna revolution. Born Tutankhaten ("living image of the Aten"), he changed his name as the old cults were restored. He died before the age of twenty; his largely intact tomb, found in 1922, made him the most famous of all pharaohs. Attested; DNA studies (Hawass et al., 2010) reported his parents as full siblings, children of Amenhotep III and Tiye — a widely but not universally accepted result.
