Wig

< 1 min read

Standard formal wear for elite men and women, worn over cropped hair or a shaven scalp. Made of human hair on netting and dressed with wax and scented oils, wigs served cleanliness, ceremony, and fashion at once; heads were often shaved for comfort and against lice, and the wig supplied the public face.
